DIY nuclear exit – it's that simple…

Make use of your right to terminate contract with E.ON, RWE, Vattenfall and EnBW! Power customers are free to choose their energy provider for themselves.

This is a quick guide to changing to green power:

Step 1) Choose a green electricity provider

Almost every private household and business in Germany can change energy supplier without hindrance. We especially recommend 4 providers of green electricity that have been involved in the energy transformation for more than 10 years. These companies have developed from the anti-nuclear power movement, intending to oppose the big corporate groups that run nuclear power plants with small green electricity providers.

Step 2) Find out the number of your electricity meter and fill in the contract

You’ll find the contracts of the recommended green electricity providers in the section of each company (here). You may use the online form, print out the pdf file or order a printed version.

To be able to fill in the contract, you need to know the number of your electricity meter which you can find on the meter itself or in your latest electricity bill. In case you can’t find it, your caretaker, landlord or your present energy provider will surely help you.

Step 3) Finished!

Post the letter and you have finished with nuclear power! Soon you will receive a welcome letter from your new green electricity provider, telling you from which date on you will be their customer. The new provider will take care of all formalities and will also terminate your contract with the old provider. But don’t worry – current supply to your home will not be interrupted at any time.

Watch out:

Some energy suppliers try to trick their former customers in order to keep them. So don’t let yourself be wooed into a new offer by your former nuclear power provider. If you feel doubtful, ask your new green electricity provider for help.
